Oiseaux cachés

Oiseaux cachés
Section titled “Oiseaux cachés”Created in collaboration with Chris Bass
An online game in which players discover ten birds of Morin-Heights, painted in their natural habitats, and listen as their songs emerge.
Explore the landscape
Section titled “Explore the landscape”Oiseaux cachés invites players to move through a hand-painted Laurentian habitat in search of ten local birds. The landscape begins in near darkness. Each click or tap brushes away part of the monochrome surface, gradually bringing its colour and details into view.

From birdsong to image
Section titled “From birdsong to image”Each bird call was converted into a spectrogram, turning the recording into a visual trace. The spectrum image was then refined to reduce visual clutter and bring forward the distinctive shapes, pulses, and rhythms of the bird’s voice. In the game, a playhead travels across this image as the call plays, connecting what the player hears with the pattern they see.
